Greg aka @denimhound is the owner of the blog, thedenimhound.com. His blog is a one-stop site for anyone that wants to learn about denim. He is very passionate about denim and is always on the hunt to find the best denim from around the world. We are releasing an awesome KOJIMA GENES x SF x THE DENIM HOUND collaboration denim with Greg, so stayed tuned! Now, let's share his fantastic story!!
*The Campaign is now live! You can check it out here! How did you start your denim blog?I'm half Japanese and half Irish and was raised in Berkeley, CA, just across the Bay Bridge from San Francisco. About 10 years ago my interests in craftsmanship and durable, built to last clothing found me focusing on denim. My desire to learn more about my Japanese heritage, gave my denim interests a specific point of focus, Japanese Denim.
After years of travel and research, exposing me to a wealth experience with denim from all origins (USA, Japan, UK, Italy, China, etc.) I discovered I wasn't alone. There were lots of other people out there with this strange and beautiful obsession. I wanted to share my knowledge with this newly forming community so I began thedenimhound.com. The blog was designed to be a data base and resource to denim heads all over the world. A companion on the hunt for raw denim. At the time there wasn't a blog reviewing quite the way I imagined it should be done. Before you would have to go to numerous sites, getting a low quality phone pic here, or scatted bits of info there. I wanted a site that was almost a s good as holding the denim in your hands and trying it on. With all the possible info about the denim but at the same time not overwhelming and easy to read. Instagram has been an integral part of the blogs success and has connected me on a personal level to lots of people who share my interest in denim.
What is your philosophy as a denim blogger/influencer?My philosophy as a blogger and influencer on Instagram has been honesty and transparency wherever possible. Also, that this is all for enjoyment and to not take any of it too seriously. Yes I know a lot about denim, more than your average denim head, but I don't stake any ego or self image on that. I know a lot because I enjoy researching it and spend a lot of time doing it. It doesn't make me who I am. I also don't spend much time on denim forums. Discussions on there can quickly become toxic. That happens when people take all this way to seriously and don't have much of a life outside of their home and computer. I just love teaching what I have learned, and hope it is useful to others.
I’m lucky to be able to walk to world class denim shops such as Self Edge, General Quarters and Mister Freedom. I spend countless hours at second hand/vintage shops, flea markets and retail stores as well as scouring the internet for notable and interesting denim. I hope my research and experiences will be of aid to you on your journey. I hope you join me on the hunt for raw denim! ~ The Denim Hound
