Kyoto Craftsman Lab is a band of skilled Kyoto craftsmen and small manufacturers with the vision of showcasing the spirit of traditional craftsmanship. We strive to transform these superb traditional skills and techniques into the modern world, offering the most refined products created through unceasing enthusiasm and passion.
Kyoto has been the center of Japanese traditional culture for over a thousand years. The city is filled with a multitude of historical landmarks, charm, and beauty. Craftsmen have passed down both their traditional craftsmanship and techniques through generations.
Our logo is inspired by the Kamo and Katsura rivers that flow through Kyoto,
and also the Japanese word "Jiyuu" (free), to portray our concept of expressing art freely.

Kyoto ISETAN, one of the biggest department stores in Japan, collaborated with "Kofu" shop in Kyoto, creating denim shirt with SASHIKO pattern accessories using one-of-a-kind vintage cloth, from the Meiji era.

Miyabi-ori Kobo is the dyeing profession/manufacturer for Hon-Aizome, genuine indigo dyeing. They have passed down it's traditional special “ash liquid fermentation” method since the Edo era.

CRAFTSMAN T-SHIRT, UTILIZING "KATAGAMI YUZEN KIMONO" METHOD

Skillful and experienced craftsmen apply their full efforts, techniques, and knowledge to create this special graphic t-shirt. They employ the special advanced printing technique, “Katagami Yusen” method, a traditional Yusen-Kimono style using cutting paper patterns to print on silk kimono.

Cold pad-batch dyeing is an alternative method of reactive dyeing that is more environment friendly. This method requires fewer resources with less usage of water and energy. The dyeing process is very carefully done by hand.

Recycle Cotton Tees are made from short fibers that fall off during the spinning and combing process. It gives the garment a super soft feel and superior fit. Every recycle cotton fabric adopts the characteristics of the yarn it originally came from, making each one unique in its own way.
The hem is a style that was used in the 1970s and 80s called SUSOHIKI. This look is characterized by vertical threads and is created using a special sewing technique. All of our Recycle Cotton Tees are skillfully MADE IN JAPAN.
