Hello everyone, it is time for another blog post! Today we are featuring Mike Scocozza! He is a jack of all trades, as he is a model, traveler, oyster shucker, and most importantly, knucklehead lol. Now let's dive into his story!
WHO IS MIKE SCOCOZZA?Mike Scocozza @mikescocozza is an American model, writer, traveler, oysters shucker, and knucklehead. He is most known for his stint as the ice cream man on America’s Next Top Model Cycle 20: Guys & Girls. He currently resides in Los Angeles and is partners in the fashion brand, Gentry + Rose.
As a professional model, what does social media mean to you?As a brand and as a business, I understand the importance of social media. It helps us to connect and engage with people who we never could have before. But to be honest, I personally hate having to update my social media. I grew up in a world without Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, and I still feel a disconnect sometimes between my true authentic self and the persona that ultimately exists on social media.
I wonder a lot about the psychological impacts of kids who have grown up with always having social media, but that's another conversation. It's a part of the world we live in now and as with anything else, I just want to try and be myself as much as possible.
Any interesting encounters through social media?I've certainly gotten propositioned for a number of bizarre things, I find this all pretty funny. Lots of naked photos as well. Sometimes its a nice pair of titties, sometimes it's a dick. I'm a straight man, so I prefer the tits.
What keeps you going when things get tough in your business?Life is full of ups and downs, it doesn't matter what industry you work in. The nature of the entertainment industry is tough, but I've been involved in it in some way since I was 18 years old, so it feels normal to me at this point. I've been fortunate enough to have a really good support system around me throughout the years.
It's important to surround yourself with family and friends who are there for you and genuinely care about your well being. I've also learned over the years to take care of my mental health. You have to find a good balance with work and doing things that are good for the soul. And lastly, you need to remember to have fun with it. It's a wild ride, try and enjoy it!
What are your 3 favorite items to travel with?I have an AWAY luggage bag, which is the best bag for travel. Once you have one, it's impossible to travel without it. I always travel with a good pair of boots. I've had a pair from Paul Evans for years now that are just so versatile when it comes styling and hold up so well. And unless I'm going to a tropical island, I always travel with a denim jacket.
